Birthdays and Surprises...of the Human Kind

June was a very busy month at our house! It is always a busy birthday month for us anyways. We have James' birthday, Aunt Jill's birthday and Loreli's birthday all within the same week. This year the kids all got cameras and so some of the pictures will be from their cameras! It is fun to see the world through their eyes!
James opted to have a cheesecake for his birthday cake. We bought one from Costco and ate it for the next week. It was yummy but we were kind of sick of it by the end.
Loreli took the next two pictures with her new camera. The biggest surprise of all wasn't the presents though, it was the presence of their uncle Mitch! He surprised the kids and flew in to spend two whole weeks with us! It was the best surprise ever! The kids were so happy, but then they were sad for a minute because we were going to Yellowstone National Park for the following week and they thought that Mitch would be staying behind. What they didn't realize is that Mitch was coming with us. They were even more excited to go after learning that he was coming!
Grandpa and Grandma Barnes have taken it upon themselves to try to hand deliver a birthday card to each of the grand kids and great-grand kids. It was fun to see them on Loreli's birthday. The next day they took Mitch with them to a massive garage sale at the fairgrounds. He was happy to learn that they have American Pickers in common. They searched all day for the prize and finally found it on the way home, around the corner from our house.
Loreli wanted nothing more than to go for a bike ride for her birthday. We decided to load up and go down to the river parkway. Ha...easier said than done. It took us an hour to figure out how to fit all of the bikes on our new bike rack. It was worth it in the end though. We had a great time and learned how to do it for when we would load the bikes to cart them up to Yellowstone.
After Mitch got back from his adventures with the Grandparents, we decided to spend the rest of the day at the lake. James looks way too old in this photo! Did I mention that he is officially a teenager now. Heaven help us with a thirteen year old in the house. I thought the terrible twos were bad...I had no idea!
I have to try really hard to catch a picture of Carter when he is not looking at the camera. He is such a goofball if he knows your looking. I love this picture of him though; it is his most natural "I am thinking about what I am going to do to you when I get you in the water" look.
The kids have each taken their turn being the resident bug experts and Loreli, despite being a girly girl, is no exception. She caught this beautiful little dragonfly and we were flying over the water.
This picture of the boys on the tube cracks me up because James and Carter look like they are having a blast and Mitch looks like he is ready to be done.
Loreli were the first ones on the tube and our ride lasted all of about 3 minutes. We got caught under the wake of another boat and Loreli was sure that she almost drown. I have to admit it was a little bit scary being dragged under the water! She hung out on the boat the rest of the time, just enjoying the breeze.
This is my favorite shot. This is the extent of the water skiing that happened that day. Haha!
